I began my dog career journey as a balanced trainer, using aversive/corrective training methods in addition to positive training methods. However, I started noticing subtle, but significant affect these methods had on dogs. I knew there had to be a better way, so I started focusing on using positive training methods. The results were amazing! The dogs regained their confidence, and most importantly, they were trusting their human companions again. Seeing the effect of positive reinforcement on these dogs convinced me to become a force-free trainer.
I taught myself grooming as well, with help from mentors along the way. I realized I was building bonds with these dogs, and once training was over, I rarely saw them again, other than for boarding. These dogs become some of my best furry friends, so I decided to also learn grooming so I could see theses lovely, tail wagging friends more and more.
During my career as a pet care provider, I've had the joy of working with dogs as a doggy daycare kennel tech, head trainer for board and train and private programs, trainer for group classes, and grooming.
Education: I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, knowledge assessed, a Fear-Free Certified Groomer Professional, Pet first aid and CPR certified, and Pet Hair and Skin Science certified, and an AKC Canine Good Citizen approved evaluator.
Cheyenne, Trainee Groomer
I have always been empathetic when it comes to animals. For long as I can remember, animals were my first friends. Before grooming, I wanted to become a Marine Mammal trainer or Marine biologist. But thankfully, that field didn't do it for me; grooming has become my passion. Because I can make every Dog look their best, big or small, long or short. Every day, they bring a smile to my face. I couldn't ask for a better career.
After shadowing with Serene Dog care. I realized this field was it for me. I study and practiced hands on as much I could and continue to further my education and experience. As of right now I still shadow my Mentors and am always learning. But I have come a long way and eagerly learning from the amazing mentors I have at serene.
As of right now I specialize in Double Coats and Deshedding, while learning to groom doodle mixes. Australian Shepard and Golden Retrievers are my favorite dogs to work on. I plan to compete in grooming competitions in the future to push myself even further. I also plan to become a Creative Groomer.
Education: Fear Free Groomer Certified, Pet first aid and CPR, 15 coat types certification, Geriatric Dog grooming certification, 2 year Canine Careers certification.
